Paul Berry After building the product for Huffington Post, and owning the product and engineering groups at AOL after we were acquired, it was clear to me there was a huge gap between what the current CMS offering gave the world and what the world needed. Five years later we are at scale, moving the needle and doing to WordPress what Airbnb did to Craigslist. Social and Centralized WordPress, Drupal, and the custom CMS solutions of the world are all independent, non-connected instances that each need to be updated individually. There are over 87 million instances of WordPress alone in the world, and each security upgrade, feature update, and every other single thing has to be updated for each site individually. By contrast, RebelMouse is a social, centralized platform built to keep up with the speed of the tech giants. Our updates are pushed out to all of our sites at once and sometimes even multiple times a day with content creation tools integrated directly into social APIs.
Mount St. Helens –
Nearly 40 Years After Mount St. Helens volcano in the US state of Washington exploded, taking 57 lives and destroying hundreds of square kilometres of forest, bridges, and homes. The US Geological Survey USGS has been keeping an eye on the volcano’s activity ever since, and says while it’s unlikely we have much to fear at the moment, recent quakes are a reminder that the bomb under the mountain is slowly recharging.
During the April 16 to May 5, swarm, we detected well over earthquakes, all below a magnitude 1.
Watch video · The eruption, which entered its 39th day on Sunday, stands as the most destructive in the United States since at least the violent eruption of Mount St. Helens in Washington state that.
Helens began about 40, yr ago with dacitic volcanism, which continued intermittently until about 2, yr ago. This activity included numerous explosive eruptions over periods of hundreds to thousands of years, which were separated by apparent dormant intervals ranging in length from a few hundred to about 15, yr. The range of rock types erupted by the volcano changed about 2, yr ago, and since then Mount St.
Helens repeatedly has produced lava flows of andesite, and on at least two occasions, basalt. Other eruptions during the last 2, yr produced dacite and andesite pyroclastic flows and lahars, and dacite, andesite, and basalt air-fall tephra. Lithologic successions of the last 2, yr include two sequences of andesite-dacite-basalt during the Castle Creek period, and dacite-andesite-dacite during both the Kalama and Goat Rocks periods.
Major dormant intervals of the last 2, yr range in length from about 2 to 7 centuries. During most eruptive periods, pyroclastic flows and lahars built fans of fragmental material around the base of the volcano and partly filled valleys leading away from Mount St. Most pyroclastic flows terminated within 20 km of the volcano, but lahars extended down some valleys at least as far as 75 km. Fans of lahars and pyroclastic flows on the north side of the volcano dammed the North Fork Toutle River to form the basin of an ancestral Spirit Lake between 3, and 4, yr ago during the Smith Creek eruptive period, and again during the following Pine Creek eruptive period.
Before the May 18, , eruption, the volcano was as large as or larger than at any previous time in its history, much of its bulk and shape having been acquired during just the last 2, yr. This report summarizes the eruptive behavior of the volcano throughout its lifetime in order to provide a perspective for the eruptive events of which so drastically modified the shape of the volcano and devastated broad areas beyond it.

Each Hawaiian island is made up of at least one primary dormant volcano, although many islands are composites of more than one. The Big Island of Hawaii, for instance, is constructed of 5 major volcanoes: Mauna Loa is the largest active volcano on Earth. Kilauea, which you can see on a Maui Air tour, is presently one of the most productive volcanoes on Earth in terms of how much lava it erupts each year.
The primary volcanoes on each of the islands are known as shield volcanoes, which are gently sloping mountains produced from a large number of generally very fluid lava flows. Volcano Air Tours is the only airplane company on Maui with air-conditioned planes authorized to fly over Volcanoes National Park.
Starting on the Toutle Trail, head north, immediately coming to an old lava flow erupting with beargrass and a killer view of Mount St. Helens. Traverse the flow and enter an open forest of fir and pine.
Historical eruptions[ edit ] Eruptions of Etna follow a variety of patterns. Most occur at the summit, where there are currently as of [update] five distinct craters — the Northeast Crater, the Voragine, the Bocca Nuova, and the Southeast Crater Complex 2. Other eruptions occur on the flanks, which have more than vents ranging in size from small holes in the ground to large craters hundreds of metres across.
Summit eruptions can be highly explosive and spectacular, but rarely threaten the inhabited areas around the volcano. In contrast, flank eruptions can occur down to a few hundred metres altitude , close to or even well within the inhabited areas. Numerous villages and small towns lie around or on cones of past flank eruptions.
Since , Etna has had four flank eruptions — in , — , — , and — Summit eruptions occurred in , — , January—April , and again in July—October The first known record of eruption at Etna is that of Diodorus Siculus.

Mount St. Helens Magma Volume Activity Although there is no standard scale for measuring the sizes of volcanic eruptions comparable to the Richter scale for earthquakes, one useful measure is the volume of new magma or lava ejected onto Earth’s surface.
Member beliefs What most LDS have been taught in church and believe as truth The leaders of the church, as well as gospel doctrine teachers the world over, have taught that many Biblical events and beliefs that people have had for centuries are indeed true, historical events. Joseph Smith and other prophets have made statements that indicated that certain Biblical events were indeed historical and not merely parables.
Many of these Biblical traditions were believed as literal events by most of the general population in the s as well. Global Flood of Noah. Adam and Eve were the first humans. Suddenly, needles on the seismographs wiggled furiously. A startled colleague and I watched in amazement as the shaking continued. We realized that something catastrophic was happening at Mount St. I ran upstairs to radio David Johnston, a friend and colleague who was at an observation post Coldwater 2 6 miles north of the volcano. Receiving no answer, I raced back downstairs. Though the shaking continued, no one could see the volcano from the building.

Helens Really a Million Years Old? The best “proof” for millions of years of earth history in most people’s minds is radioisotope dating. But is the method all it’s cracked up to be? Can we really trust it?

Introduction One of the most significant results of space exploration concerns our view of Earth and the dynamics of how the planet changes. Now, “for the first time in all of time man has seen the Earth from the depths of space seen it whole and round and beautiful and small. Almost without our realizing it, the tools for space studies have brought about a new age of rediscovery of the planet Earth itself. Viewed from space, Earth presents a fascinating range of surface features Figure 8.
By an alien scientist it might be called the Blue Planet; but the deserts, such as the Sahara, are distinctly orange and the lush vegetation gives the tropics a deep greenish hue. Contrasting beautifully with the azure blue are the white streamers of clouds and the massive ice cap of Antarctica. To many, the breathtaking photographs of Earth from space may be simple items of great beauty, but to the student of geology they reveal much more than mere clouds, oceans, and continents.
These photographs tell us much about how the planet works as a dynamic system undergoing constant change. Earth, like the other rocky inner planets, is differentiated with a dense iron-rich core that is still partially molten, a thick mantle of iron- and magnesium-rich silicates, and a crust of silica-rich and magnesium-poor rocks.
The present atmosphere contrasts sharply with those around other inner planets because it is poor in carbon dioxide, rich in the residual nitrogen, and also rich in oxygen. Earth’s lithosphere is ten to several hundred kilometers thick and is thinner and more mobile than that of the Moon, Mercury, or Mars. The continents and ocean basins are the principal surface features of Earth.
